Mission Work

The Bible commands the practice of missionary work. In the book of Matthew, Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20a, New International Version)

Today, over one-third of the world's population is out of reach of the Christian church for any number of reasons. This means that over two billion people have not even heard of Jesus Christ. Some may also argue that it is not possible to reach that many people. However, in 1974, only half of the world's population had been in the reach of the church. As of 2001, two-thirds of the worldwide population was in reach. (“The State of World Evangelism”)

Missionary work is embraced by First Presbyterian Church, and we sponsor several missionaries who are deployed across the globe. Our missionary ministry is alive and well, and these friends and church family members have gone to great lengths to spread the Gospel in places where the words of Jesus Christ have never been heard.

These friends and family remain in our prayers every day, and we admire their perseverance and commitment they exhibit each day as they transform complete strangers' lives into those which follow our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
